GUIDE

Truck Bed Guide

We classify truck beds by length and width.

LENGTH:
-If your truck bed is 5.5ft to 6.5ft in length, you would need a shortbed flatbed which will be around 7ft in length. (We can special order them shorter then 7ft if you have a 5.5ft truck bed and would like to go shorter)
-If your truck bed is 8ft in length, you would need a longbed flatbed which will be around 8ft 6" in length.

WIDTH:
-If your truck is a single wheel, you would need a single wheel flatbed.
-If your truck is a dually, you will need a dually flatbed.
Truck frame widths are measured at the the rear axle, outside to outside of the frame. It should be 38" or 42" if it is a normal truck that came with a bed from factory.
If it is a cab & chassis truck, which is a straight flat frame that did not come with a bed from factory, it will most likely be 34" outside to outside frame.

For aftermarket flatbed truck beds, the standard is 34", 38", 42" as well.
A lot of dealers like us will just keep the 34" and 38" frame width flatbed truck beds and install kits in stock, as you can use a 38" frame flatbed truck bed on a 42" frame truck.
If you have a 42" truck frame, and you choose to buy a 38" frame width flatbed truck bed from us, you may need to run some thick flat strap or square tube across your truck frame, then sit the flatbed truck bed down on it. Then you can use pieces out of the kit still to save fab work.

We keep some plug & play wire harnesses in stock for the most popular models.

UNIVERSAL:
JCTS1230 - Generic Adapter, this adapter is if they do not have a harness below but you still want to be able to unplug the bed from the truck. Most people will just cut off the plug on the flatbed truck bed and wire it directly into their 7 pin trailer plug on the truck, but with this it would allow you to unplug it if you need to remove the bed in the future.
